Workplace association

The Workplace association module declares the Systancia Workplace instance Bastion attaches to: the reverse proxy serving the Workplace desktops through Bastion, the HTML5 Edge Gateways used to launch the Workplace applications, and the optional merging of the Workplace console modules into the Bastion one.

The screen is governed by a single checkbox, Enable Workplace association: while it is unticked, the four sections below are disabled.

Console merging is what reveals the Workplace modules

The screens of the Workplace scope — access contracts, VDI desktops, virtualisation hosts, virtual machines, firewall — only appear in the console when the association is active and the Console merging section is active too.

Communication with Workplace

Field Description
Internal URL Composite line: a protocol drop-down (http or https), then ://, then the internal address of the Workplace server. Mandatory. Choosing http disables and unticks the certificate option of section Console merging.
Virtualhost IP (external IP) External address under which Bastion exposes Workplace. The https:// prefix is displayed, fixed, before the input. Mandatory.

Reverse Proxy

Field Description
Site Site through which Bastion reaches Workplace to read and write settings from the console. Mandatory. The sites through which users reach the Workplace desktops are defined in the access contracts instead.
Login attribute Name of the SSO form field carrying the user name. Mandatory.
Password attribute Name of the SSO form field carrying the password. Mandatory.
Open the Workplace Console at the opening of Bastion When ticked, the Workplace console opens on every connection to the Bastion console.

HTML5 Gateways

A collapsible sub-section listing the HTML5 Gateways that launch the Workplace applications. The grid has two columns, Full address and Redirection; as long as no Edge Gateway is declared, it shows No available gateways. Three buttons sit above it: Add, Properties (single selection) and Delete.

The add window carries only two labels, the first one covering three inputs:

Field Description
Full address A fixed https://, then the HTML5 server, then : and the port (default 18443), then / and the HTML5 path (default systanciaHTML5-6.0). All three inputs are mandatory.
Redirection Redirection path, pre-filled with /systanciaHTML5-6.0/. Mandatory.

HTML5 server certificate

On every addition, the console recalls: Warning: the HTML5 server certificate must be on the client used. Without it, launching the applications fails on the user's workstation.

Console merging

A section collapsed by default, with a checkbox in its title. Expanding it enables its content; collapsing it disables the content and excludes it from saving. Once merging is in place, the Workplace modules become reachable in the Bastion console and the applications of both products are served by the same user portal.

Field Description
Authentication Domain Workplace authentication domain. Mandatory.
Administrator account Administrator account of that domain. Mandatory.
Password Password of that account, masked. May stay empty when editing: the stored value is then kept.
Use specific certificate authorities to validate the server certificate Disabled while the protocol chosen in section Communication with Workplace is http. Once ticked, it makes the next field mandatory. It ticks itself when a certificate is already stored.
Certificate authorities to validate the server certificate (base64 encoding) File picker. The file must weigh less than 20 KB and its content start with -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE---; otherwise the console answers This file is not a valid base64-encoded certificate and the selection is cancelled.

Connectivity test

A collapsible sub-section, collapsed by default. The Configuration test button queries Workplace with the values currently entered — there is therefore no need to save before testing.

Outcome Display
Success Connectivity test succeeded. followed by Workplace version: [version], in bold
Insufficient parameters Incomplete configuration, in red
Connection failure Connectivity test failed., in red

Options

Field Description
Enable Bastion theme Applies the Bastion theme to the Workplace desktops served through the reverse proxy.

Save

The Validate button saves every active section.

Console reload

If the state of console merging has changed, the console asks Do you want to refresh the page so that the option changes can take effect? under the title Confirmation. Answering yes reloads the page, which makes the Workplace modules appear in or disappear from the menu.
