Virtual machines hosts¶
The Virtual machines hosts module references the virtualisation platforms from which CyberElements drives and provisions virtual machines: VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix and, where the offer allows it, Azure. Declaring a host is what makes its machines appear in Virtual machines.
Prerequisite: Workplace association
This module only appears when the Workplace association is active and console merging is active too. The objects managed here are shared between CyberElements and Workplace: a change made in either product shows in the other.
Host list¶
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Server name | Name given to the host, preceded by an icon depending on its type. |
| Type | Type of the host. |
| URL | Connection URL. |
As long as no host is declared, the grid shows No server to display. The search field, whose
placeholder is Search, filters the list 700 ms after the last keystroke. The grid footer
offers an Items per page: selector set to 15, 25 or 50.
The toolbar carries the three standard actions, whose tooltips are Add, Properties (single selection) and Delete.
Add a host¶
Click +. The form adapts to the retained host type: the Azure-specific fields stay hidden for the other types.
The Validate button activates last
It is inactive on opening and only activates once the form is complete — for a VMware host, that means having run the type Search (see 2.2).
Common fields¶
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Host type | Platform type. When editing, this field is read-only. |
| URL | Connection URL of the host. ⚠ The label becomes Target when the retained type is Hyper-V. |
| Name | Name given to the host in cyberelements. |
| Login | Account used to authenticate against the host. |
| Password | Password of that account. When editing, the field shows ****** and is only submitted if retyped. |
| SSL secured connection | Encrypts the connection to the host. |
| Root certificate | Certificate to validate. Optional. |
A VMware host¶
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| VMWare host type | Read-only. The Search button beside it queries the host with the entered values and fills this field in. While it stays empty, saving is refused with This field is required. |
An information text recalls the supported versions: Supported versions: VMWare 7 to 8 or VMWare vCenter 7 to 8.
If the URL cannot be used, the console answers The URL … is invalid.
An Azure host¶
These fields only appear for an Azure host, and Cloud Datacenter is only offered when Azure hosts are allowed.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Cloud Datacenter | Marks the host as a cloud datacenter. |
| Tenant ID | Azure tenant identifier. |
| Subscription ID | Subscription identifier. |
| API Version | API version used. |
| Application Group | Azure resource group. |
| Storage account name | Storage account. |
| Storage Account ID | Identifier of that account. |
| Storage account Key | Access key. |
| Localization | Azure region. |
What follows the addition¶
On submit, the console announces: The virtual machines of this host will be referenced in the database. The list of virtual machines will be displayed and/or updated after completing this task. Referencing therefore carries on in the background.
| Message | Case |
|---|---|
| Virtual machines are being referenced. Please try later. | A referencing run is already under way. |
| Please wait until the end of the current operations. | A previous operation has not finished. |
| It is impossible to control this task, under the title Task control | The referencing task could not be followed. |
Edit a host¶
Select a row then click the Properties icon (or double-click). The form is the one used for adding, with Host type read-only.
Delete a host¶
Select the host then click ×. The confirmation requested depends on what the host carries:
| Case | Confirmation |
|---|---|
| The host carries application locations | Deleting a server will delete all application locations and the configuration of the exclusion thresholds that are linked to it. Are you sure you want to remove the server …? |
| Otherwise | Are you sure you want to remove the server …? |
If deletion fails on the server side, an error message reports it.
